TELLING STORIES HAS BEEN SOMETHING I’VE ALWAYS DONE
Telling stories has been something I’ve always loved. Getting to the heart of the story and pulling out what audiences want to hear. I started my career in journalism, graduating with a degree in Multi-Media Journalism, specialising in radio. I went on to work at BBC Radio 2 on the production side of a popular news programme. I then moved to the news team at my local station in Manchester, Piccadilly Key 103. It was my job to find and tell the stories of the day.
I then moved on to the life of a London PR girl. Agency life became my total passion. My clients goals became my goals and that’s something that still drives me to succeed this day. The early days of winning column inches for clients were incredibly exciting and they still are.
I worked in agencies, heading up beauty teams at consumer PR agencies in London looking after a range of clients – fragrance, bodycare, haircare, beauty, and lifestyle.
I still get a huge buzz from achieving great PR for my clients. That feeling never leaves you, no matter how long you’ve been doing the job.
Working at L’Oreal in the mid-90s was a real career highlight. I worked in-house, heading up the press team for a new launch into the UK, Redken 5th Avenue. Working for such a leading corporate provided an incredible insight into where PR fits within the sales and marketing mix. I returned to L’Oreal as a freelance consultant for many years, working for the Professionnel division. My role was in PR education, creating toolkits for salons that wanted to manage their own PR. Teaching PR has always been a passion of mine.
I left L’Oreal to pursue my dream of freelancing which gave me the flexibility to work across a range of accounts and industries, whilst allowing me to travel the world.
With the emergence of social media, website and blogs, alongside email marketing, the world of PR has become much more inclusive, more fun and has given business owners more opportunity to reach their target market through the use of great content.
